Officer Jeff Moritz
Badge #10
E.O.W. June 21st, 2000
Jeff Adam Moritz was the first police officer killed in the line of duty on June 21st, 2000. A veteran of four
years on the department, Jeff was a field training officer, a SWAT team operator and was going to
school to earn his degree in engineering in addition to working full time as a police officer.
Jeff was a local resident of Flagstaff. He grew up and went to school here in Flagstaff and graduated from Flagstaff
High School. He then chose to raise his family here.
Jeff was the epitome of what a great cop is thought to be. He was adventurous, had a great spirit,
was compassionate, intelligent and honest. He often donated his time off duty with elderly residents
where he helped clear their yards and with maintenance they could not do themselves. He never took
credit for these things and no one would have even known had not some of these people called in to
voice their thanks for his efforts. Jeff was the first one to offer his help with just about everybody. It was the little
things like these, going the extra mile on and off duty, that set Jeff apart from everyone else and set
the bar for other people to aspire to. He pushed himself to be better every day at home and at work.
The culture of this department is one of a big family. Jeff was
instrumental in helping create that culture. Because of him we have kept it alive and well for all these years.
Officer Tyler Stewart
Badge #45

developing a love for animals and basketball. Tyler graduated from Boulder Creek High
School with honors, then attended Concordia University in Irvine, California. Tyler
graduated from Concordia in four years with a degree in Athletic Training.

athletic trainer. Tyler also worked nights as a bouncer at Collins Irish Pub. This is where
Tyler met several Flagstaff police officers and made the decision he wanted to be a police
officer. Tyler was hired by Flagstaff Police Department and started the Northern Arizona
Regional Training Academy in Prescott, Arizona in January 2014.
Several times Tyler was offered a job with other police departments but his heart was in
the city of Flagstaff. Tyler had finally found his passion in life, serving the citizens of
Flagstaff. Tyler loved his agency, and his squad Bravo Company. Tyler was very excited
and happy with his career choice and often stated he never had a bad day as a cop.

guitar. Tyler loved the game of basketball, which he played while attending college.
Tyler owned a home with his dad which they were remodeling. Tyler often referred to his Dad as his roommate.
Tyler had a real passion for police work and he had developed a career path that would
have included working on the traffic squad, making the SWAT Team, being a detective,
promoting, and one day becoming the Chief of the Flagstaff Police Department.
Tyler once wrote that he loved being a police officer, he loved Flagstaff, and if he should
have to give his life while being a police officer he would gladly do so for the people he served.
He also said it would all be worth it. Tyler had a strong faith in Jesus and heaven.
Tyler was killed in the line of duty on December 27, 2014, just seven months after
graduating the academy. Tyler is survived by his Father and Mother, step-father and step-
mother, and three sisters. Tyler will always be remembered for his smile, sense of
humor, and his passion for police work. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
